Our Mini Netball squad comprises of the following age grades:
MINIS
Y1 (U6) - Y4 (U9)
WHAT WE PROVIDE AND FOCUS ON
Core themes are tailored to each age group, which focus on fun, meeting new friends, fundamental skills, game understanding including court positions, and emotional development. Alongside regular training, we also have fixtures, competitions, tournaments, and special events for each year group. Players in Y3 and Y4 are also invited to trial for league teams to play matches against other clubs.
TRAINING TIMES AND LOCATION
8am–9am, Saturday mornings at the world-renowned Sevens Stadium, Al Ain Road, Dubai.
Our Minis are split into school year groups for training with a dedicated coach per year group overseen by a Head of Year Group Coach for every 2 years, ie Y1-2 and Y3-4. Depending on numbers, each year group may have an additional coach and a coaching assistant so players get as much attention and time on court as possible.
YEAR 1 AND YEAR 2
In Year 1&2, our coaches aim to focus on the acquisition of basic motor skills, in a fun environment of games and activities appropriate to the age and abilities of the players. The players begin to learn some of the basic skills involved in netball at their own pace whilst having fun and without competitive stress.
YEAR 3
When our players reach this age group we begin to incorporate netball specific skill development drills into our sessions through activities appropriate to the age and abilities. Game play has an emphasis on participation and fun however, players are also given the opportunity to play competitively in a league setting.
YEAR 4
In Year 4, the prime aim is to deepen skill development further so the players are prepared for transitioning to Juniors the following year. The main aim is to learn the correct rules whilst having fun. Coaches will explain umpiring and game decisions so players can begin to embed rules and skills further. Similar to Year 3, they will also have opportunities to play competitively in a league.
As players develop we invite them to trial for teams to join local competitive leagues (eg Active Netball and Venture Leagues) from Years 3 and 4, combining the age groups to play matches against other local clubs and independent teams. These matches are in addition to Saturday training. League matches are held usually on a Sunday morning at various venues around Dubai, depending on the provider. Spaces on these teams are limited so commitment to Sunday morning matches is a priority.
